Class Description:  US History is a North Carolina state required course. This is a semester long course in the block schedule (which will be the work of a year long course). Therefore, a lot of work, time, energy, and positive attitudes are a necessity. It is imperative that you keep up with your class assignments and do all of your work when it is given. I ask you to please follow all directions, do your work on time, and ask for help if you need it.

Goal 10 Test

1.  Short Answer:  Why did the United States get involved in the Korean War?  In what ways was the war a success, and in what ways was it a failure?

2.  Essay (3 paragraphs):  After September 2, 1949, both the United States and the Soviet Union had atomic weapons that they could use in a war against each other.  In an essay, describe how this fact shaped the progress of the Cold War and the relationship between the two countries.  You may want to discuss term such as arms race, mutually assured destruction, massive retaliation, and brinkmanship.
